Our History, Our Story

For over 30 years, we have represented clients thougthout Minnesota.  Our attorneys have provided direction, guidance and superb representation to thousands of clients.  Ely native Larry Klun began his practice in 1979.  He brought an entrepreneurial spirit and a true passion for the law.  His desire was to effectively counsel clients and help them make their dreams a reality.   His spirit and approach to the practice created the foundation of Klun Law Firm. 

Initially, Larry brought experience in both legal legislative and administrative issues. He served as the Associate Director and later Executive Director of the Range Association of Municipalities and Schools, an association of 50 municipal corporations related to the mineral tax base in the Taconite Relief Area.  Larry soon developed a reputation for his skilled representation of cities and associations and was named Ely City Attorney, a position the Firm still holds today.

Soon thereafter, Larry became a real estate specialist and committed a substantial portion of his practice to real estate law.  He protected the property rights of clients while conducting countless real estate transactions.  Canoe Country Title was formed as sister company to Klun Law in an effort to better serve clients' needs.

Expanding our firm’s services to clients in 1999 became possible with the addition of attorney Rae Bentz.  Rae brought to our firm eight years’ experience representing clients in the areas of probate, family law, and criminal defense.   

In 2006, Larry Klun passed away; however, his legacy and spirit remain.  Larry’s oldest daughter, Kelly Klun, joined the practice after receiving her degree from Hamline School of Law in 2008. In 2011, Kelly was named an Up & Coming Attorney in the State of Minnesota by Minnesota Lawyer and has continued her family's tradition of quality legal representation.  

In 2010, Attorney Amber Pederson, a native of Virginia Minnesota, joined the practice.  Graduating with Honors from Hamiline School of Law, Amber brings excellent legal reseach skills to our Firm and practices primarily in the areas of real estate, probate, family law, and elder law.

As our practice has grown, so have the services we offer to our clients.  Klun Law Firm has a collection of practice areas that services the needs of individuals, families, governments, and businesses. We at are proud of the services we provide to our clients, and are excited about our continued growth. Our expanded resources and services allow us to better serve our community and you.
